From the Gram...

In 1629, vine clippings of Spanish grapes were smuggled to the New World by a Franciscan friar and a Capuchin monk. They were planted here in the Rio Grande Valley and have been grown and harvested here to this day. Vara Winery in Albuquerque made this fortified wine from these ancient vines. At 17%, this is not a drinking wine, rather an apertif to be enjoyed before any meal. Taste what those monkish wine pirates were really up to!—#taos #newmexico #wine #finewine #shoplocal #piratesoftheriogrande #apertif #newmexicowine #definitelydontdrinkthisallinonesitting #youllcryaboutittomorrow #riogrande #riograndevalley #monkpiracy
